Sodium batteries are less dense, with an energy density of <b>100 to 150 Wh\/kg<\/b>, compared with lithium batteries, which range from <b>120 to 280 Wh\/kg<\/b>, depending on their chemistry. This means they are heavier for the same amount of stored energy, an essential factor for mobile applications.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite their potential, sodium-ion batteries still face major challenges, notably the absence of mature supply chains and the lack of investment that would enable large-scale industrialization. Their current formats (non-cylindrical or prismatic) also pose integration problems for manufacturers already equipped for lithium-ion battery formats.<\/p>\n<p>At present, lithium-ion batteries still offer superior overall performance. However, sodium-ion batteries could become the alternative of choice for less energy-dense applications.
